Multi-Reasons

There is a growing trend. especially in the greater Charlotte region for mutli-use properties. Notablly, Birkdale Village and Afton Village. And there are more being developed everyday. The function of these spaces have so much to offer communities!

Today, we are focused on sharing “Hello, Social Media!” but the caveat is that society has moved apart since the invention of the automobile. If you think about it, prior to automobiles, towns were tightly knit. Stores, restaurants, office buildings and homes were close in proximity (or literally on one main road) because everyone had to walk or hop on a horse to get where they needed to go. But then the automobile came and dramatically altered the way society lived. Towns were able to spread out, and people began to live further away from the hustle and bustle.

Fast forward to 2015, and as a whole people are desiring to connect with each other. And because of this, the increase of multi-use properties is valuable. Many of these properties include homes, restaurants, retail establishments, gyms, green-ways/parks, and community functions (i.e. movies on the green, or weekly produce markets). All those components work to create a lifestyle that is cohesive in meeting many factors of every day life. Plus, the interaction with people develop the relational aspect that so many desire.

With growing families, many young professionals are comprising the majority of the demographic that these communities appeal to. Pushing the stroller to pick up dinner or to go get ice cream is not only convenient but fun. And it should be said that the “Go Green” movement has contributed in a very positive way towards these properties. With people using less gas and having activities at their fingertips to pass the time, these communities offer a huge benefit to many Gen Xer’s and Yer’s lives. Even the development of these properties have impacted the environment and surrounding communities. Many recent drawings for these multi-use properties have even included converting older existing structures that may have been abandoned eye sores or completely wasted space.

This trend seems to be sticking, and their apparent success is even more reason developers are including extra functional features in their plans that not only provide added value but added community.
